We give you the latest trends straight off the runway for SS19, so you can update your summer wardrobe accordingly.
How many times have you seen a new trend hit the shelves and groaned inwardly as you’re confronted by a season of seemingly unwearable items? SS19 is here to change all that – rarely have we seen a season offer so many varied trends. From utilitarian cargo to Y2K neon, the dreamiest pastels to hippy maximalism, let’s dive into the runways.
Wriiten By Candice BreslerFresh Florals
To paraphrase Miranda Priestly, florals for spring aren’t exactly groundbreaking. But classics are so for a reason. It’s not like we needed an excuse to fill our wardrobes with a little floral fantasy, but Self Portrait’s SS19 runway presentation did make the idea that much sweeter.Historically seen as a little fussy and old-fashioned, this year we see the return of smaller floral print – sometimes worn alone, sometimes with a clashing larger print – which helps keep the trend fresh. It’s florals, but edgy.
Our style tips
We’ve done all the hard work for you with our selection of must-have floral pieces for SS19, with our carefully curated selection of prints and styles. We’re particularly obsessed with the muted, high-necked number and its clever colour blocking and contrasting patterns.

Modern Hippy
Colours, prints – and even a little crochet – if you hadn’t already noticed, summer 2019 is filled with maximalism in all its forms. And, we’re not the only ones embracing the ethos of ‘more’. Paco Rabanne and Stella McCartney took to this season’s runways with guns blazing, and we’re totally here for it.Showing tie-dye and even – gasp – ankle bracelets on the runway (thanks, Stella), not to mention mirrored disks, dreamy off-the-shoulder necklines and layered necklaces (ciao, Paco) – we’ve never wanted to frolic through a field of daisies quite as much as the summer of 2019. Yes, you might even see us with rose-tinted glasses and a flower behind our ear. Joining #clubhippy2019 we also have Chloé’s Creative Director, Natacha Ramsay-Levi, who added her touch in the form of warm desert and sunset tones, which heavily inspired our edit.
Our style tips
It’s hippy, but a little more sophisticated. Whether you’re drenched in burnt sienna or rich burgundy, or keeping it simple in black and white – silhouettes are clean and relatively unfussy. It’s a firm ‘no’ to layering with this one, we’re afraid.

Sartorial Summer
All hail Tibi. Its SS19 runway was filled with the stuff of sartorial dreams, a feminine fairytale of sherbet lemon and the palest rose, against deep rust and storm blue. Showcasing exquisite tailoring – your wardrobe isn’t complete without a blazer – it’s the boss babe look you were waiting for.Last season’s ‘tonal dressing’ has become this season’s ‘sartorial summer’. Yes, keep it head-to-toe if you’re a traditionalist, or use this as an opportunity to try your hand at colour blocking, choosing one colour for the top, and another for the bottom.
Our style tips
This look is a breather from the maximalism of earlier trends – keep it clean and simple for maximum impact and leave the excessive jewellery or printed scarves for another day.

Urban Jungle
While animal print has been a style staple since before we could crawl into our grans’ closets, it was Burberry who reintroduced us to the urban jungle with its SS19 runway presentation. So, what did we get from the SS19 runway? The permission to mix, match and go a little wild with our print combinations. Whether you’re styling the same print in different colours, or mixing zebra with tiger, this is the season to make the print your own. More is definitely more.
Our style tips
Repeat after us: It’s okay to start small. A little wild inspiration on your heels or sneakers is the perfect way to dip your toe into the trend, pun intended. For those who aren’t afraid to go bold, join us in mixing prints and living our best Burberry-inspired lives this summer.

Utility
You could barely flip your hair without running into yet another piece of modernised utility wear, particularly at the Paris showings. From Stella McCartney to Asai, Fendi to Givenchy – not forgetting Balmain and Hermès – fashion royalty has decreed that it shall be a summer trend – and, who are we to argue?Thankfully the utility wear of 2019 has moved on from the cargo pants days of your favourite All Saints band member. There’s no getting away from pockets and nude tones, but the look overall is much more sleek and elegant – with waist ties that accentuate your shape, rather than adding unnecessary bulk.
Our style tips
With its neutral, unfussy colours and simple shapes, you’d be hard-pressed to get this trend wrong. It’s understated summer dressing and we are fully on board.

Y2k Party
We’re always looking back, aren’t we? From '70s haircuts to '80s jeans – we can’t help ourselves. So, little surprise that the current object of our nostalgia-fuelled fashion dreams takes us back to good ol’ Y2K: the year 2000.Whether you nailed the look the first time around, or would rather forget a year or two of questionable fashion choices, it’s your time for a style do-over. And, while we’re not quite going full-on Gwen Stefani a la No Doubt, there’s enough neon and acid-wash denim involved to make your eyes water.
Our style tips
Effectively, if you have at least one neon piece on, you’ve nailed it. This trend is a little OTT by itself, so keep accessories and jewellery to a minimum – or, not. Fashion is, of course, yours to interpret as you wish.
