The ultimate casual wear for your style-conscious tween

- - No comments
A casual dress code can be the most challenging because the word 'casual' is up for interpretation. To solve the how-chill-is-too-chill problem, we’ve pulled together some totally wearable outfits your teens will love.
Written by Robyn Steinlechner

A statement jacket

Whether worn, embellished or embroidered, outerwear has the power to elevate any outfit – and the denim jacket is the one piece every wardrobe needs. For warmer days, pair it with a simple tee and when the temps start dropping there’s no limit to the snug layers that can be piled underneath.

Matching sets for the win

We can’t deny our love for easy outfits that are equal parts athletic and trendy. The bottom line is that co-ords require very little thinking when getting dressed – perfect for your teen. Wear them as a set or mix and match. Either way, it’s time to get creative and colourful.

All-black coolness

Black is always a good choice when it comes to sharp styling. Add a little edge with cool details – think contrasting graphics and crew necklines.

Denim dreams

The king of all things casual? A pair of trusty denims – and even more so when they're covered in strategically placed tears and rips. But what's a denim look without a cool pair of sneakers? Choose a bright pair of sneaks to offset the denim and top the look off with a graphic tee.

Your home office should always be functional, but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice on style. These three small upgrades will breathe new life into your work-from-home space to give you renewed inspiration for the year ahead.

Most workspaces are quite stark and minimalist, so incorporating a few low-maintenance pot plants is a wonderful way to freshen up your desk. Aside from benefitting from cleaner air, they’re also said to promote relaxation – ideal for when you’re gunning for a deadline. Opt for plants that thrive in low-light, indoor environments: snake plants, peace lilies and philodendrons. Alternatively, an artificial orchid or succulent are just as good if you don't consider yourself to have green fingers. Bring in some texture with a woven, graphic-print rug, which will also brighten the space.

Lighting is so important in any office space – especially if you do a lot of your work in the evenings. A desk lamp will offer intimate lighting when natural light or ceiling lighting isn’t sufficient, plus it serves as a chic accessory too. Make sure that the lampshade you use strikes a balance between functional and ambient and casts sufficient light over your work area.

An organised desk will allow you to avoid distraction and work more efficiently. Keep things tidy with a set of minimalist storage boxes. These will help to compartmentalise all your documents, notes, files and that all-important to-do list. Label them accordingly to prevent unnecessary rifling.

Another source of clutter is work certificates and achievements – choose stylish frames and give these pride of place above your desk. You can also display photographs of family and some of your favourite motivational quotes in frames of different sizes to create an on-trend gallery wall in lieu of other artwork.

How to wear sunset tones of yellow and orange from head to toe

- - No comments
We take a deep dive into the newest colours of the season – sunset shades of fiery orange, mustard yellow and Kalahari reds.
Move over Millennial Pink, there’s a new set of shades in town. Kalahari reds, fiery oranges, mustard yellows and burnt cinnamon are front and centre this season, as seen on some of our favourite celebrities – including Priyanka Chopra, who was seen out and about in the Big Apple wearing a layered look of yellows. Here are the best ways to incorporate this palette into your spring wardrobe.
Written by: Emma Follett-Botha

For a colourful take on the coveted and classic plain white tee, try layering a crochet crop top over it and teaming it with a pleated checked skirt in complementary shades. Finish the look with a rust-coloured belted bag and a pair of red-hot strappy heels worn with white socks.

Free 2BU boxy T-shirt 129.95; Free 2BU crochet vest top 229.95; Free 2BU checked pleated skirt 279.95; Accessorize beaded tassel earrings 299; Accessorize layered necklace 199; stacking rings (set of 4) (worn throughout) 79.95; Accessorize crossbody bag 499; belt stylist’s own

One of the ways to make your mark with this trend is to embrace a feminine silhouette. An off-the-shoulder dress with '70s-style broderie anglaise or eyelet detail softens the boldness of the colour. Keep it flowy or cinch in the waist by adding an obi-style belt, and throw on a pair of strappy pointed-toe heels in a matching colour.

Kelso cold-shoulder dress 299.95; Accessorize beaded earrings 199; Accessorize earrings (set of 3) 149; Accessorize bangles (set of 6) 299; Aldo chain-strap bag 799; Free 2BU transparent-detail heels 349.95; Vogue sunglasses 1590

A cute romper in a vintage scarf print is one of the best ways to subtly wear this marigold colour if you’re not brave enough to wear it head to toe. You can always add on a relaxed white linen shirt, unbuttoned, which will downplay the brightness of the yellow.

Free 2BU chain-print jumpsuit 249.95; Forever New linen shirt 799; chunky necklace 129.95; chunky chain 79.95; Accessorize earrings (set of 3) 149; Footwork patent sandal heels 549.95

Who would have thought that layering a crop over a shirt was even allowed by the fashion gods? Create a masculine/feminine contrast by throwing a crochet V-neck crop top over a short-sleeved shirt in a classic print such as paisley. Button the shirt right up to the top to keep the look fresh and modern. If you’re feeling really daring, pair the ensemble with a pair of wide-legged or palazzo-style pants, leather belted bag, strappy heels and a cute and casual bucket hat.

Free 2BU printed shirt 299.95; Free 2BU crochet vest top 249.95; Jo Borkett wide-leg pants 899; Free 2BU belt bag 299.95; Accessorize earrings 149; Kelso bangle 79.95; Steve Madden strappy sandal heels 1299; hat stylist’s own

If stripes are more your scene, slip on a twinset – this matching crop top and skirt combo is showing no signs of disappearing any time soon. The vertical stripes will elongate the body, and the subtle strip of skin will draw attention to the smallest part of the waist.

Free 2BU striped top 199.95; Free 2BU striped skirt 279.95; Accessorize beaded tassel earrings 299; Free 2BU cuff bangle (set of 4) 99.95; Free 2BU body chain 99.95;

complete the look

Use yellow eye shadow
For a head-turning look perfect for a special occasion or night on the town, pack on a bright yellow eye shadow, concentrating on the base of the lid and creating a rounded shape up to the crease. Keep your eyes bare to really make the electric yellow pop.

MAC eye shadow in nice energy 265 (as seen on model); Kelso floral cold shoulder dress 499.95; Accessorize circle earrings 249; Free 2BU bangles (set of 4) 99.95; stacking rings (set of 4) 79.95

Try the orange lip
Ruby reds and blue tones are taking a backseat to make way for full-on tangerine queen colours. The coral lip is especially suited to darker skin tones, and with a dusting of gold eyeshadow, you’ll be good to go.

Botanical prints and decor to update your home

- - No comments
We love a good floral print, especially in the depths of winter. We round up some of the brightest and sophisticated botanical trends for your home.
Although hardly new to the décor scene, we are continuously blessed with an abundance of attractive, floral designs and a multitude of ways to incorporate them in our homes. We love the idea of being surrounded by nature-inspired prints in the depths of winter, so we’ve rounded up our favourite styles of botanical print and provided simple ways to use them to their full potential in your living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.

Watercolour is one of the most whimsical, calming painting styles out there, and because of this, it’s right at home in the bedroom. For a light, airy feel, opt for pillowcases and a duvet or comforter with a white background, featuring light painterly washes of colourful blooms. Here, imperfections in the designs are embraced and reinforce the casualness that is integral to this theme.

If you don’t have a garden or have limited outdoor space for plants, garden-based florals are perfect for bringing the outside in. Adorn your couch with a variety of floral-print scatter cushions, or opt to juxtapose them with cushions in a luxe, textured fabric such as velvet.

There’s something about tropical leaves that is just so effective in the bathroom. Palm frond, banana leaf or Delicious Monster prints are by far the most popular. Consider incorporating leaf-printed towels or a shower curtain with an eye-catching print for an inviting Bali-style aesthetic.

Busy prints are ideal for everyday kitchen items – think aprons, pot holders and oven mitts – as the detailed design disguises blemishes and stains far better than solid colours. The kitchen is a space where you can really experiment with prints, so have fun and go for it!
