Lasher turns 90 this year, and to celebrate it’s giving Edgars Club members tips every month to get your garden ready for summer.

Lasher certainly knows what it's talking about when it comes to gardening – it's had 90 years' experience after all! These four tips will seriously come in handy for when you're ready to get back to the garden after a long winter's break.
1. GIVE YOUR SOIL SOME LOVE
Good soil is key to healthy, thriving plant life. Make sure the soil is dark, loose and fluffy for optimum water absorption, and is full of earthworms and bacteria to balance the pH. Add a six-centimetre layer of compost and lightly dig it into the soil.
2. GATHER THE RIGHT TOOLS
A garden spade for digging holes for planting, as well as to edge garden beds; a set of small garden tools (trowel, fork and daisy grubber) for small spots in the garden; gloves to protect your hands (and make it easier to dig into earthworm-ridden soil!); a garden fork for aerating compact soil and secateurs for pruning and cutting back.
3. GIVE YOUR LAWN A NUDGE
Lush summer lawns are made in spring. Now is the time to remove old, dead lawn and create air pockets to encourage new growth by using a spiked roller or garden fork to pierce 20-centimetre-deep holes across the surface. Add a layer of lawn dressing for nutrients. Water slowly and deeply once or twice a week.
4. KEEP YOUR FAST-SPREADING PLANTS IN CHECK
A clever way to keep your fast-growing and rapid-spreading plants from overtaking the slow starters is to put them in plastic containers with the bottom cut out and plant the entire container in the ground. The roots will grow downwards instead of outwards, helping to control its spread.
