This is the time of year that we start layering our looks with sweaters, chunky knits and heavy coats. Layering isn’t just a practical way to keep warm – it’s an opportunity to experiment with your style. But there’s a fine line between looking crisp and tailored and looking like the Michelin Man. Normcore dressing
The normcore trend might just be the look of the decade, and for good reason. This outfit is all about modern minimalism. Pair a pastel sweater with dark chinos and throw on a shearling jacket for a bit of a retro touch. Keep it simple with a classic sneaker style like these Adidas Courts and add a simple but smart accessory, like this watch.
Street style
The beauty of this look lies in its simplicity. If you naturally lean towards neutral colours, but still want something a little edgy, pair a printed sweater like this with grey chinos, a matching lightweight sports jacket, peak cap and chunky kicks.
Greaser moves
Timeless and durable, a leather jacket should be a staple if you’re in need of some fashionable outerwear. Pair yours with a hoody, distressed jeans, black sneakers and wayfarer-style sunnies and you’re all set.
Rugged look
Utility boots are ideal for colder weather, but when worn without a considered wardrobe, can look very drab. Score major fashion points by teaming a pair of Cats with a sweater in an unexpected colour, cargo pants, a neutral-coloured fleece and snapback cap.
Modern tonal dressing
Choosing to wear one colour can make your look more streamlined and put-together. The polo neck is a throwback to mod fashion made popular in the 1960s, while the Chuck Taylors bring the outfit into the 21st century. Pair with tan chinos, a leather belt and lightweight sports jacket.
