From light, wispy sunset pinks to the more intense orange side of the coral spectrum, we’ve rounded up four amazing ways to introduce Pantone’s colour of the year into your home.
Said to be a much-needed antidote for dull spaces, colour company Pantone describes their Colour of the Year for 2019 as ‘an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens with a softer edge’. As bold as coral may appear, this hue has multiple uses in your home.

BRING CORAL INTO YOUR BEDROOM
A soft shade that is neither masculine nor feminine, coral is ideal for bedding, cushions and other textiles in the bedroom. Go bold with a solid-colour duvet or headboard, and then incorporate smaller pieces such as scatter cushions and tasseled throws in complementary hues like teal and cobalt. Painterly designs like watercolour splashes and abstract prints are easy ways to give your bedroom a modern update – don’t be shy to experiment with different designs until you find the right look.

PLAY WITH PAINT COLOURS
If you’re not keen to embrace coral on a large scale, keep it low-key by painting your moulding or skirting boards in the fresh hue. Alternatively paint a smaller feature wall in coral, which will contrast nicely against a subdued backdrop. To make your space more suited to the 21st century, opt for today’s most popular neutrals, such as dove grey and graphite, which do an excellent job of toning down the zeal of coral.
CHOOSE STATEMENT CORAL PIECES
If you’re considering a coral couch, stick to a vintage design or 1950s-style armchair. When styled against a more neutral background, a high-traffic piece of furniture like a sofa will add a spark of interest while warming up the cooler tones that take up the space. This is also a great solution if your style leans more towards the minimalist side, as you can stick to one big-ticket item that is relatively low maintenance, instead of spending time decorating with multiple, smaller accessories.
EXPERIMENT WITH COMPLIMENTARY ACCENTS
If you do love accessories, look to clean-lined lampshades, wire ornaments, side tables and retro vases. The bud vase has seen quite a resurgence – go for two-toned styles that marry homely earthiness with modern metallics. Brass fixtures like candleholders, decorative bowls and side tables do a good job of picking up on the golden tones of coral. Add texture with wicker baskets and woven seating.
