These were the biggest spring/summer trends we spotted at the recent Edgars runway show

We take an exclusive look at the latest fashion trends to hit the Edgars runway this summer.

Hot on the heels of New York Fashion Week, Edgars hosted a mega fashion show, solidly reserving our own local spot on the global fashion month calendar.

While NYFW gave us face jewellery, oversized waist belts, pastels and political commentary, Edgars’ SS20 fashion show that took place on Thursday 12 September gave us a peek into the trends South African fashion enthusiasts will be taking to the streets, the beach, and even business lunches.
We take a look at some of the most exciting trends.

Resort style

Kelso upheld its reputation as 'every woman’s wardrobe' with its key seasonal items in inclusive sizing for all body types. This season you can expect an offering of resort-ready pieces that will match your holiday style wherever you might be heading in the holidays. We also saw an abundance of earth tones, a blast from the past with a touch of tie-dye, as well as big hair that screams ‘I’m carefree because I’m on holiday’ – all of which make for looks we’ll be coveting when the temperatures reach their flirty thirties. Add to all of that satin blouses and chic denims for the most Instagrammable outfits of the season.

Italian inspiration

Adding to Kelso’s charm this summer is the fact that we have even more to choose from thanks to Project Runway SA winner Kentse’s exclusive collection – Kelso by Kentse. The runway show for this collection was reminiscent of a Vogue Italia lookbook, with its statement headgear of silk scarves and straw hats.

We obsessed with the crisp cotton midi dresses with pockets (yay), some of them with ruffles that had the dresses bursting with personality. Kentse logo tees were on full display – perfect for those days when going minimalist makes the most sense.

Earth tones

Continuing the resort theme was the Mango summer range. Again, earthy and neutral tones come out to play here, complete with a sprinkle of floral satin dresses. A key ensemble to look out for this season is the sophisticated navy pinstriped suit that you can pair with just about every summer shoe you can think of – from leather sandals to sneakers.

Feminine florals

For easy summer dressing, Charter Club will make it seem as though your holiday mood boards have come to life. Look out for the ultra pretty and feminine satin polka dot and floral dresses, along with beautifully tailored women's suits. For the corporate guy’s day off, look no further than Charter Club's golfers and semi-formal trousers for dapper yet casual looks.

Off-duty denim

Staying true to its brand DNA of logo tees and trusted blue denims, Guess has got the backs of everyone who has a traditional approach to being casual. Graphic tees were seen paired with denim shorts and chunky sneakers on the guys; with the girls showing off some skin in cropped logo tees and figure-hugging mini dresses.

Statement prints and bold colour

Electric-bright hues and playful sheer skirts will be the kryptonite of every student on vacation. Additionally, this range is proof that animal print is here to stay in summer 2020, so don’t hold back on shopping more zebra and snake-print pieces from Free 2BU. If statement headgear is your thing, you’ll love the camping, bucket and crocheted hats here.

Suit separates

A collection for the semi-dapper gent who likes a fitted suit but also enjoys (and prioritises) comfort. This D66 collection is ideal for mixing and matching separates as well as the different prints (stripes and checks) they come in.

Glam gowns

A collection fit for a summer filled with girls’ nights! Sequins and short frocks continue to be style staples of the Sissy Boy label, not forgetting the LBD and its figure-hugging jumpsuits. Not to mention gorgeous formal wear befit for any summer wedding or glamorous art show.

Miami heat

If you’re a guy that’s known for his OOTD posts on Instagram, you might want to up the ante this season by shopping utility pants, pastels and fun shirts ready for a Florida-type summer from JX.
