How to make sure your street style is snapped this summer

- - No comments
Across the globe, street style is as much a part of fashion weeks as the actual runway shows. Make sure you have the right pieces that will get your outfit the attention it deserves.
Street style has taken over – and rightly so; it enables fashion lovers to put their unique stamp on their style, using trends to elevate their individual looks. We’ve identified the trending items that you need to add to your street style mix.

MINI BELT BAGS

First the dadcore trend successfully resurrected the fanny pack and its derivative equivalents, including the belt bag; then Jacqemeus sent models down his AW19 runway holding the tiniest bags you’ve ever seen; and now, we welcome the micro trend. Falling somewhere between chunky fanny packs and micro bags is the mini belt bag. They immediately add a cool, utilitarian edge to your look. They’re also a great way to add a pop of colour or texture to an otherwise plain outfit.

CROCHET PIECES

If Kate Spade’s New York Fashion Week SS20 runway show is anything to go by then crochet clothing is a summer must-have. The trick to making this street and not beach appropriate is in the styling. Crochet can be dressed up with heels and a clutch or down with sneakers or sandals. Layer over a casual T-shirt, or a button-up top for added interest.

ABSTRACT BAGS

Whether it’s their shape, material or size, handbags that are abstract in nature are a must-have summer trend if you’re aiming to nail your street style aesthetic – and Instagram game. Very on-trend are glossy crocodile-effect details in pastel and neutral colours – chic, edgy and sophisticated. The fashion crowd has distinguished the baguette bag of the 90s/early-2000s era with its short strap and oblong shape as a style favourite. And PVC has been enjoying the fashion spotlight for a while now, so we can see why the PVC bag, with its chic insert, was 2018’s ‘It’ bag.

VISORS

What started with Cindy Crawford on the cover of Vogue in 1991 continued in 2018 with Kim Kardashian and Dior: The visor. This previously loved '80s accessory is summer’s must-have headgear and is a standout and inexpensive way to put a unique spin on your street style. The visor’s once purely functional status has been elevated to a higher fashion plain thanks to the on-trend PVC and straw versions in which it comes. Try it with a prairie dress and heels; with a summer pants suit and trainers; with bicycle shorts, an oversized button-up shirt and dad sneakers; or with a midi skirt and oversized blazer.

WOVEN SHOES

Just as we previously predicted, woven or braided shoes will be a thing this summer. Every woman needs a reliable, stylish and chic pair of flats in her shoe arsenal and we can’t think of anything more appropriate than flats in wonderful wovens and perforated leathers. From practical vintage denims to the dreamiest of midi skirts, the woven flat will add summer flair to any ensemble.

SQUARE-TOE SANDALS

Square-toe shoes take us back to our happy place in the early 2000s. Dubbed the ‘It’ shoe of the summer, the square-toe sandal has been adorning the feet of influencers and style icons around the world, many of whom were wearing Bottega Veneta’s super cool version. Now the rest of the fashion world has followed suit sparking a square-toe renaissance. The square toe is just as chic and versatile as its pointed-toe counterparts, and looks good with everything from slip dresses and midi skirts to shorts and denim.
