The Durban July is one of South Africa’s most prestigious annual fashion events. There, you want to be seen. Here’s your go-to guide for dressing the part.

Known to many as one of the country’s most prestigious fashion-centric events, the annual Vodacom Durban July attracts thousands of people to Greyville Racecourse in Durban. Much like the Met Gala in the US, every Durban July is centred on a theme, and this year it’s ‘Stars of Africa’. There are almost no rules – the more ostentatious, the better! Men, here's your opportunity to shine.

My style
‘My personal style is adventurous yet structured and well thought out. I love taking risks and braving new looks. I also enjoy playing with pops of colour with a monochrome look. Also, I am big on prints!’

‘This look provides a blank canvas to allow me to add some flavour in the form of a wide-brimmed hat and a pair of wayfarer-shaped sunglasses.’

My style
‘My style is all about less is more – I pay careful attention to detail. I am diverse when it comes to my look, but every look I put together is inspired by simplicity. My outfit of the day comes from how I feel on that day, the occasion, trying something new but also staying within the parameters of minimalism. Men’s fashion to me is all about stepping outside the traditional norms of how men should wear clothes and interpreting your own take on style.’

'I love this look because it pays attention to detail and it’s easy to notice every element of the look.’

My style
'My style is versatile; I tend not to conform to any particular genre because I’m always open to breaking the rules and switching up my looks. I’d like to describe it as a season-less style with clean lines that strike a balance between sartorial and Japanese-inspired aesthetics.'

‘The colour of your suit is just as important as the cut and fit, and charcoal creates a rock-solid image. This look conveys an unspoken message of opulence and confidence; a man of the people.’

My style
‘I would describe my personal style as classic. I always choose pieces that are comfortable and versatile. Being in public relations, I need to look good at all times – at meetings during the day and at events that I host and attend by night. I draw inspiration from style icons such as P. Diddy, Kanye West and Olivier Rousteing [of Balmain]; the way they dress makes a statement in a powerful way. It’s important to me to build a wardrobe that is simple yet timeless.’

‘This styled look contains all the traits I mentioned above.’
