Why your home needs more faux fur

Faux fur has become a covetable trend within the home and is easier to incorporate than you may have thought.
What is it about furry textures that makes us swoon? Whether it's straight off the runway and something warm to wear or a décor piece for the home, faux fur is considered the newest and most effective way to make a statement. Emma Follett-Botha finds out more.

Recently, faux fur has extended beyond a wearable trend and is now something you can easily incorporate into the home. Tactile and rich in texture, it’s one of the most basic (and affordable) ways to add a warm and cosy opulence to your living space.

IT OFFERS NEUTRAL INTEREST

If you want fur that will stand the test of time, go for lighter colours such as beige, cream and grey. These colours will complement most décor schemes and won't tire as easily. Consider draping a faux-fur throw over the couch in the living room, or adding one at the foot of your bed.

IT SOFTENS HARD FEATURES

Faux fur is a great way to add interest to a very modern space. For contrast, consider draping a small fur shrug over clean-lined, masculine steel chairs or transparent chairs. A fur rug on a stark, cold concrete floor is a wonderful way to soften an otherwise harsh-looking space.

IT EASILY CREATES A WARM AND COSY SPACE

Consider incorporating faux fur in a high-traffic area. Create a cosy play area for your children with a faux-fur rug situated right next to their toy box – it will keep your little one entertained for hours, and make an area that is usually disorganised look a little more chic.
