Haute sport is athleisure’s newest update

- - No comments
Not even Gucci and Chanel, two of fashions biggest names in high-end and luxury, can resist the pull of athleisure, or as we’re calling it, haute sport.
By now you know athleisure: what it looks like, why we love it and which celebs do it best. But did you know its origin stems from ’90s hip-hop culture? And that it stuck around during the early naughties but transformed as fashion moved towards futuristic influences? Recently the trend has been given a new spin by designers like Virgil Abloh through the stark styles of his brand Off-White. We take a look at athleisure’s latest facelift, 2019’s version, haute sport.

QUICK-FIRE TIPS & TRICKS TO GETTING THESE TRENDS RIGHT

If you’d like to wear haute sport to work then think of pairing a laid-back pair of tracksuit pants with heels and a blazer. The trick is to keep a professional silhouette while playing with the key pieces.
Try it on a night out. Thanks to Kim Kardashian, ski pants, a blazer and a pair of transparent heels is the new night-out uniform. Try platform sneakers for a more pared-down look.
Proceed with caution. There really is a difference between athletic and athleisure. To nail athleisure/haute sport, remember to include pieces that speak to the ‘leisure’ or ‘haute’ side of the trend – blazers, heels, clutches, handbags and button-up shirts for example.
Your make-up should be polished, bright and youthful. This will also help with the ‘leisure’ or ‘haute’ side of things. Make your lips or eyes pop with some colour if you feel like the outfit needs a playful edge.

Make-up artist and influencer Gina Myers shares her top beauty tips and products for a gorgeous complexion.
Beauty influencer and make-up artist to some of South Africa’s biggest stars including Pearl Thusi and Terry Pheto, Gina Myers lets us in on her top make-up tips and tricks, as well as the best beauty buys to bag.
Which make-up trends can we look forward to seeing this winter?
We’re going to see a lot of bright colours, especially neon on the eyes and lips. And on the other end of the spectrum, natural, glowing skin is a big trend on the rise.

Could you suggest a quick beauty routine for women who only have a few minutes to do their make-up in the morning?
If time is limited then all you need is mascara, a brow pencil, and some blusher and bronzer. Mascara instantly opens your eyes, blusher and bronzer warm your complexion, and filling in your brows will frame your face.

Your skin always looks flawless. What’s your secret?
Thank you! That means a lot because I try to take really good care of my skin. My top tips would be to, first and foremost, always remove make-up before you go to bed. Invest in a good foundation to really see a difference in your make-up look. With regards to skincare, learn your skin type to understand what your skin needs and then establish a beauty routine that works for your complexion.

What are your go-to make-up brands and products?
Elizabeth Arden is a great brand; I can’t live without the Eight Hour Cream and Standing Ovation Mascara. I am currently using the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation, which offers medium, long-lasting coverage; I also love that this formula gives my complexion a dewy finish. To brighten and conceal, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat is a must. Lastly, I can’t go without the MAC Prep+Prime Fix+ Spray – it sets my make-up beautifully and ensures it lasts all day too.

You recently hosted the Edgars Beauty store launch in Rivonia – what about this new store do you think is unique?
I love the vibe that the store has going. Beauty is fun, and South Africa has needed a beauty store where employees are just as excited as the clientele visiting. The store is fresh and the look is chic and sophisticated. Everything about it has been well thought out.
