How to style summer's 7 hottest trends for guys

- - No comments

From all-white denim to key ’90s pieces and tonal dressing, these are spring’s trends for men.

We try out seven of the hottest spring trends for men. From real ’90s classics like bucket hats and cargo pants to all-white denim and bursts of floral, here's how to style these looks for the season ahead.
Written by Jocelyn Stiebel

1. The cargo pant

The AW19 menswear runways were filled with baggy, billowing pants, and we're here for this major '90s comeback. From Marni to Off-White and Jacquemus, the proof is in the pudding that cargo pants are in. If embracing the full-on baggy look is a little daunting, then opt for a version that’s elasticated at the bottom. This will streamline the silhouette and help to take away the bulk at the bottom. Ditch the T-shirt and team your cargos with a button-up shirt and a sporty pair of sneakers.

Do: get yourself a fun printed bucket hat which will add another '90s-inspired element to the look.

2. All-white or cream

Tonal white dominated the SS19 menswear runways and is by far one of the most sophisticated and wearable trends to come around in a while. Take your cue from Junya Watanabe with a look that's opulent while looking crisp and fresh at the same time. The utility pockets scream not just '90s but also major practicality. Roll up the hems of your pants to show off your socks.

Do: mix cream and white. They are a stylish combination and a certified spring/summer look!

3. Floral shorts

Flowers make everyone happy, including guys. So don’t be afraid to get festive this spring with a pair of floral shorts. Bring this trend into 2019 by pairing it with a dark button-up top (instead of a Polo with a popped collar circa 2002). A button-up will take focus away from the casualness of the shorts, and add a little formality to the overall look.

Do: add cool accessories like a moonbag and socks with slides (also a major trend) to make your outfit unique.

D66 formal shirt 269.95; JX floral shorts 299.95; Pro-Action belt bag 149.95; Vans socks (set of 3) 299.95; Reef slides 699; accessories stylist own

4. Pink

If the latest Spring collection by Christian Dior is anything to go by, then pink for men is totally in! We love artistic director and designer, Kim Jones's tonal take on pink using various shades and textures – the modern way for men to wear the colour. If you want to add a little edge to break up the soft tones of pink, look to black accessories like a cool pair of trainers.

Do: wear a pair of socks pulled all the way up; they will be the difference between a sporty look and a preppy look.

JX basic T-shirt 109.95; JX board shorts 259.95; Falke socks 130; Nike Defline sneakers 1099.95; accessories stylist’s own

5. Clashing prints

Look to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air for major print-clashing inspo! While we loved his interpretation of the trend back in the '90s, the 2019 take requires a lot more sophistication. It’s less about the actual prints and more about the fit – baggy clothes just won’t cut it. We love a stripe as a base – stripes work with pretty much all other prints and make it easy to start the clashing fun.

Do: use a staple like a denim jacket to incorporate a little solidity into the outfit.

JX denim jacket 799.95; JX Versace-inspired printed T-shirt 199.95; JX striped shorts 299.95; Vans socks (set of 3) 299.95; JX sneakers 399.95

6. The printed shirt

Forget the notion that loud menswear is obnoxious and attention seeking. That kind of thinking is outdated and boring – again, just ask The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. We’re embracing the printed shirt trend because it’s fun and warm-weather inspired – this season favours the bold! The great thing about a printed shirt is that is can be casual or smart. For a smart-casual look, like this, all you need is a pair of dark trousers or pants and you’re good to go. Add a fun pair of socks that represent your personality.

Do: wear a pair of brogues (keeping the printed socks) for a more formal look.

JX printed casual shirt 349.95; D66 chinos 399.95; Puma beanie 249.95; Ray-Ban sunglasses 2190; Reebok sneakers 899.95; accessories and socks stylist’s own

7. Dungarees

Another ’90s favourite! Dungarees, overalls, boiler suits… Whatever you choose to call them, they were everywhere back then. TLC, Will Smith and The Fugees were frequently spotted sporting the all-in-one; even the late, great Tupac embraced this unlikely trend. Vogue says that overalls have a history of being the chosen clothes for working men in the 18th century; since then it has remained a functional garment hence its utilitarian design features. And if you want real proof that this trend is back to offer us even more, then look no further than the Supreme and The North Face collaboration last year.

Do: pair yours with a simple T-shirt underneath, as the dungaree is a bold garment already. And a baseball cap will finish off the outdoorsy look nicely.
Don’t: go for a trucker cap or snapback, as this will resonate cliched '90s instead of the stylish '90s-inspired trends we’re seeing today.

JX basic T-shirt 109.95; JX denim dungarees 799.95; JX sunglasses 149.99; watch 249.99; Falke socks 130; Nike ‘Airmax’ sneakers 1399.95; cap stylist’s own

How to wear sunset tones of yellow and orange from head to toe

- - No comments
We take a deep dive into the newest colours of the season – sunset shades of fiery orange, mustard yellow and Kalahari reds.
Move over Millennial Pink, there’s a new set of shades in town. Kalahari reds, fiery oranges, mustard yellows and burnt cinnamon are front and centre this season, as seen on some of our favourite celebrities – including Priyanka Chopra, who was seen out and about in the Big Apple wearing a layered look of yellows. Here are the best ways to incorporate this palette into your spring wardrobe.
Written by: Emma Follett-Botha

MIX SOLIDS WITH PRINT

For a colourful take on the coveted and classic plain white tee, try layering a crochet crop top over it and teaming it with a pleated checked skirt in complementary shades. Finish the look with a rust-coloured belted bag and a pair of red-hot strappy heels worn with white socks.

USE HEAD-TO-TOE COLOUR

One of the ways to make your mark with this trend is to embrace a feminine silhouette. An off-the-shoulder dress with '70s-style broderie anglaise or eyelet detail softens the boldness of the colour. Keep it flowy or cinch in the waist by adding an obi-style belt, and throw on a pair of strappy pointed-toe heels in a matching colour.

INCORPORATE PRINTS

A cute romper in a vintage scarf print is one of the best ways to subtly wear this marigold colour if you’re not brave enough to wear it head to toe. You can always add on a relaxed white linen shirt, unbuttoned, which will downplay the brightness of the yellow.

MIX TWO UNEXPECTED COLOURS TOGETHER

Who would have thought that layering a crop over a shirt was even allowed by the fashion gods? Create a masculine/feminine contrast by throwing a crochet V-neck crop top over a short-sleeved shirt in a classic print such as paisley. Button the shirt right up to the top to keep the look fresh and modern. If you’re feeling really daring, pair the ensemble with a pair of wide-legged or palazzo-style pants, leather belted bag, strappy heels and a cute and casual bucket hat.

Free 2BU printed shirt 299.95; Free 2BU crochet vest top 249.95; Jo Borkett wide-leg pants 899; Free 2BU belt bag 299.95; Accessorize earrings 149; Kelso bangle 79.95; Steve Madden strappy sandal heels 1299; hat stylist’s own

WEAR MATCHING SETS

If stripes are more your scene, slip on a twinset – this matching crop top and skirt combo is showing no signs of disappearing any time soon. The vertical stripes will elongate the body, and the subtle strip of skin will draw attention to the smallest part of the waist.

Free 2BU striped top 199.95; Free 2BU striped skirt 279.95; Accessorize beaded tassel earrings 299; Free 2BU cuff bangle (set of 4) 99.95; Free 2BU body chain 99.95;

complete the look

Use yellow eye shadow
For a head-turning look perfect for a special occasion or night on the town, pack on a bright yellow eye shadow, concentrating on the base of the lid and creating a rounded shape up to the crease. Keep your eyes bare to really make the electric yellow pop.

MAC eye shadow in nice energy 265 (as seen on model); Kelso floral cold shoulder dress 499.95; Accessorize circle earrings 249; Free 2BU bangles (set of 4) 99.95; stacking rings (set of 4) 79.95

Try the orange lip
Ruby reds and blue tones are taking a backseat to make way for full-on tangerine queen colours. The coral lip is especially suited to darker skin tones, and with a dusting of gold eyeshadow, you’ll be good to go.

THE ULTIMATE BRA GUIDE

Bras have the ability to make or break your outfit. We bring you the seven bra styles every woman should own for maximum comfort and support.
To go from work to gym to play with ease, you need a variety of bras that provide a comfortable and flattering fit to suit the occasion. With some statistics saying that eight out of 10 women aren’t wearing the correct bra size, it’s essential that you get measured by a professional and find out which bra is not only good for the size of your bust, but the shape too. We’ve rounded up seven must-have bras to invest in, based on your support requirements.
Written by: Emma Follett-Botha

EVERYDAY BRA

Ideal for: Bigger busts
The soft-cup underwire bra is ideal for bigger-busted women who want to prioritise support. A bigger bust usually means moulding, padding and other push-up features are likely not required.
Playtex 2-pack padded underwire bra (available in nude & black) 419.95; Playtex 2-pack non-padded underwire bra (available in nude & black) 419.95

CLASSIC NON-UNDERWIRE BRA

Ideal for: Smaller busts
The everyday non-underwire bra is usually made of a soft, supple, seam-free nylon material. These are ideal for women who don’t require a lot of support, and for the days when you can’t stand the thought of caging your bust.

T-SHIRT BRA

Ideal for: All busts
T-shirt bras are usually made from a smooth, nylon fabric. Their moulded cups allow for a smoother, rounded silhouette underneath clingy cotton vests, camis and T-shirts. The T-shirt bra is also cut lower than that of the everyday bra, which allows you to wear them with lower-cut tops. Although the T-shirt bra contains underwire, it’s still the one you’re most likely to reach for most days of the week due to its pure versatility.

MATERNITY BRA

Ideal for: Pregnant women
Comfort is key here. Make sure you opt for a bra that has wide straps, wide side bands and a wide under-bust band, with a deep centre at the front. Firm elastic straps eliminate bounce and provide extra support. Look for a maternity bra with a minimum of four hooks, as this will allow your bra to grow with you. As pregnancy causes your body temperature to rise, a natural material like cotton is ideal as it will reduce irritation and allow your skin to breathe.
Playtex 2-pack maternity feeding bras (available in nude & black) 399.95; Shelley 2-pack padded maternity feeding bras (available in nude & black) 279.95

FULL-CUP BRA

Ideal for: Bigger busts
Bigger busts need bras that offer support and stability, and the shapes that best lend themselves to these features are bras with underwire and a sturdy under-bust band, such as full-cup bras. This style balances out the bust and gives it a rounded shape with fantastic lift.

SPORTS BRA

Ideal for: Any bust
The kind of sports bra required depends on the intensity of the workout you plan to do. Far less support is needed for a session of vinyasa yoga versus a fast-paced treadmill or trail-running session. Underwire sports bras are ideal for women who need the support of a normal bra with the comfort suited to exercise. Most sports bras have removable padding, allowing you to keep the padding or remove it depending on your support requirements.

MULTIWAY BRA

Ideal for: Any bust
A multiway bra is a great bra to have in your arsenal as it can accommodate almost any item of clothing, and reduces the need to have many bras for different outfits. Detachable and changeable straps enable you to go from strapless, racerback or halterneck styles with just a few tweaks.
Kangol 2-pack multi-way padded bras (available in nude & black) 199.95

DEEP-PLUNGE BRA

Ideal for: Bigger busts
The deep-plunge is ideal for dresses that are particularly low-cut in the front. You could opt for a multiway with silicone gripping around the band, which will enable you to wear the bra strapless without it slipping, or go for a deep-plunge bra with some lace detail attached to the plunge to vamp up eveningwear.
Shelley 2-pack multi-way deep plunge bras (available in white & black) 199.95

PUSH-UP BRA

Ideal for: Smaller busts
The push-up bra is best suited to busts that are on the small side as the built-in padding enhances the cleavage, making it perfect for days when you want to wear more revealing blouses or dresses. This style is particularly great for women with asymmetrical busts, as it can even out breast shape and size.
